This class goes over the basics of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design from basic concept to functional design that could be ordered and made into a functional PCB. The class is split into 3 sections; you can decide to take all three or take just the section you want to learn more about. If you do take a section that has material coming in from the previous section, that material will be provided for you already; you do not need to come pre-prepared.

Session 1. Basic Circuit Theory: Learn about the basics of circuits, circuit design, and how to build a circuit using LEDs, microcontrollers, and how to supply power to it.
Session 2. Schematic Layout: In this session, you learn how to take the circuits designed in session 1 and lay them out in Autodesk Eagle’s schematic view. You will also learn how to make good notation and documentation in Eagle, and how to make custom parts that don’t already exist in Eagle’s Libraries.
Session 3. PCB Design: In the third and final section, you learn how to lay components out on a PCB to build a PCB from the schematic made in session 2. You’ll learn how to position components, how to add traces to connect them, how to add documentation on the board’s silkscreen layer, and how to prepare your files to send to a PCB manufacturer.

This class is intended for beginners and does not require a prerequisite to join.

Class Goals
Session 1: Understand the basics of PCBs, circuits, and how to translate an idea into a functional circuit or paper.
Session 2: Translate the ideas learned in the previous session to a schematic diagram
Session 3: Take your designs from session 2 and turn it into a viable PCB design that can be manufactured.

Online Access
This class will be run through Zoom and a link will be provided 24hrs before the start of the class. Students will need to log into Zoom via a computer/mobile device. Students will also need Autodesk Eagle downloaded to their computer before the class begins.
