The French Cultural Center invites you to their ballroom on Saturday, February 6 at 1:00 to enjoy a glass of cidre and some crêpes made fresh by CRISTEL chef and culinary expert Virginie Woo and participate in the various traditions of this traditional French holiday!
Also called Crêpe Day, la Chandeleur is a French holiday often associated with the Catholic holiday of Candlemas, though it originally stems from pagan traditions. Like Groundhog Day in North America, la Chandeleur is an occasion when the duration of winter is said to be predicted.
While some say Chandeleur celebrates the return of sunny days (crêpes symbolize the sun), others say that making crêpes using flour left over from the harvest ensures prosperity in the coming year. And, of course, there is the traditional coin ritual: if you can flip a crêpe while holding a coin in your other hand, your family will not have to worry about financial problems.
Guests must be 21+
This event is $15 for French Cultural Center members and $20 for non-members.
