About the series:


At her winter studio in France the artist is surrounded by a national forest. The oxydo-gravure process commences there, outdoors, by positioning rusty metal objects on prepared bamboo paper. Exposure to nature migrates the rust from the metal onto the paper, creating an imprint. The one-of-a-kind base images are “harvested“ after several weeks under the Provençal sky. Upon returning to her summer studio in Maine, she revisits the images, painting color into the negative spaces.


Physicists say that a ratio of chaos to order is seven to one in the universe. Respecting that formula, the base images are not overworked, allowing the unkempt aspect of forests as a suggestion and subject matter. The finished product is a hybrid of seeing the forest through printmaking, graphite and watercolor.


The work will be on view May - June 2017.
