Join us for the debut of Are You A Giraffe? a prequel to the Lady Lucy series! In this story, youngsters are introduced to Lucy and some of her animal friends. Lucy goes in search of a giraffe, one animal she has never seen. Through simple word use, repetition, and hide-and-seek, this book will become a favorite. The story also messages the importance of respecting diversity at all levels.


Copies of the book will be available for purchase. Karen will stick around to sign and personalize your new book!


Karen Gross is a children’s book author and now illustrator. Her stories and poems are brought to life through the use of puppets and engagement activities involving music and art. She also writes award winning adult books. All her works message about the power of the possible and dreaming big. She involves humor in her work and has a children’s giraffe joke book that interests both children and families. She previously served as president of Southern Vermont College in Vermont and was a formerly Senior Policy Advisory to the US Department of Education. She is in her third year as the artist-in-residence at the Molly Stark Elementary School in Bennington, where she engages with all grades once a month. She specializes in trauma and creating trauma sensitive educational responses and spends most of her time writing, speaking, teaching and training. She speaks frequently and writes regularly about education issues for various audiences and in a wide array of publications such as Change: The Magazine of Higher Learning, University Business, BBNTimes, Hechinger Report, New England Journal of Higher Ed, Diverse, LINKEDIN (top voice for 4 years), InsideHigherEd and the Chronicle of Higher Education.
