A trio of history's most essential composers fuel Impelling Forces, José Mateo Ballet Theatre's three-part season premiere. The opener "Mozart Provoked" is an upbeat piece set to a jaunty jazz version of Mozart's Sonata in C major by experimental musician Uri Caine. Then, "1796" explores the tension and the darkness in Beethoven's late-career Sonata No.2 in G minor. Finally, 20th-century American composer Philip Glass' Symphony No.2 propels "Over and Over," a descent into the nameless space where the painful effects of personal loss intersect with the vast repetition of history. See Impelling Forces at Cambridge's historic Sanctuary Theatre, an intimate space featuring cabaret-style seating and a sommelier-curated wine list for purchase.
