Jose Mateo, New England’s celebrated dance-maker, opens the Company’s remarkable 29th Season with a concert of stunning original ballets – including a world premiere.
Far Reaches features the first premiere of the season plus Mateo’s Presage (2005). Set to Polish composer Henryk Gorecki's soaring Symphony No. 3, Presage is a powerful and visually stunning dance that celebrates the majesty of the human spirit. A favorite from one of Mr. Mateo’s popular Cuban-inspired concerts, Ayer Pasado (2004) meaning “The Day Before Yesterday”, unfolds to music by Manuel Samuel, a romantic composer considered the father of national Cuban music, and composer of 58 Contradanzas for piano.
More than just “going to the ballet”, Far Reaches offers a thrilling live dance theater experience designed for today’s audiences. Named one of Massachusetts’ 1,000 Great Places to Visit, the stunning Sanctuary Theatre in Harvard Sqaure offers an extraordinary close up view of the dancers with cabaret-style seating and cocktails during the show.
