For many years, pianist John Kordalewski has helmed the acclaimed Makanda Project, an all-star "little big band" devoted to the compositions of the late Makanda Ken McIntyre. I'm pleased to welcome him to the Mandorla Music Series for a rare trio appearance with a top-shelf band. John describes Carlos Pino as one of the most versatile bass players to have emerged from Colombia in recent years. Kesivan Naidoo is recognized as one of South Africa's top jazz drummers, and presently makes his home in NYC. Expect a program of compositions by such pianist-composers as Cedar Walton, Horace Silver and Mulgrew Miller, and music from and inspired by Pino's Colombia and Naidoo's South Africa.
