A series of drawings and paintings depicting various visual elements found along the coastline of Magnolia in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The work in this series, created on-site, depicts tangled and knotted lobster traps, rope and debris, mauled by collisions along the boundaries of water and land. As Marshall says, “ ... in Gloucester, fishing and lobstering are elements, like the sea and air.... These colorful, twisted wrecks are portraits, and each one reflects the insistent beauty of this city.”
The work will be on view in the Museum lobby. A reception for the artist is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Jeffrey Marshall is currently associate professor of art foundations at Mount Ida College in Newton, MA. He is an artist and educator with over 20 years of teaching experience and an extensive exhibition record. Marshall received a BFA in painting in 1991 from Cornell University and an MFA in painting and printmaking in 2000 from the Massachusetts College of Art Boston, MA.
