Internationally respected violist da gamba Shirley Hunt joins Les Bostonades’ artistic director Akiko Sato for a very special chamber music recital – a Birthday Celebration for J.S. Bach, featuring his complete Sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord.
In addition to their beauty, resplendence, and ingenious musical architecture – the masterful Sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord exhibit Bach’s seamless ability to unite both forward-looking and backward-looking elements of style. At the time of composition, the viol was already considered an instrument of the past – and yet, the independent lines of the keyboard part look ahead to the future.
Celebrate Bach’s 334th birthday with an evening of exquisite chamber music in the splendid acoustic of Gordon Chapel – party favors included!
