The forum will focus on how the Olympic Games change cities, highlighting both positive and negative impacts on Housing, Transportation and the use of public and private spaces. Five case studies will be discussed: Barcelona, Atlanta, Athens, Sydney and London. The second part of the forum will be an interactive session where Eva will lead a discussion on the Boston 2024 possible Olympics- identifying potential challenges, bottlenecks and opportunities.
Eva Kassens-Noor (DUSP PhD 2009) is an Assistant Professor of Urban and Transport Planning in the School of Planning, Design, and Construction (SPDC) at Michigan State University. Her expertise involves understanding the impact of mega events on transit, she has consulted for: the Athens Airport Authority (2004, Summer Olympics), Vancouver Airport Authority (2010, Winter Olympics), and the Holy Mecca (2009, Pilgrimage Planning). She has been appointed to the International Expert Transport Council of the Moscow Government to consult on the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2018. She is the author of "Planning Olympic Legacies, Transport dreams and urban realities."
