One of the easiest 4,000 footers in the White Mountains. Riders and driver's will meet at Wellington at 5:45 AM and leave no later than 6 AM to drive up to the North Country for this hike.

Map: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/new-hampshire/mount-waumbek-and-mount-starr-king-trail

Taking the Starr King trail we will cover about 7.2 miles and 2,650 feet of elevation gain. It has easy grades and good footing. Total hiking time should be 5 hours. While Waumbek itself has no views from the summit our path will take us across Starr King which has good views of the Presidential range. Although this hike is considered one of the easiest 4,000 footers in the White Mountains it will still be strenuous for anyone who has not recently hiked in the Whites. If you are unsure of your ability to keep with the group please contact the trip leader. We are a friendly bunch and welcome newcomers (how else are you going to get experience?) but no one has fun if someone is just not prepared for the challenge.

There will be a gear check for this hike at the pick up location and at the trailhead if you're a non-carpooler. If you don't have the gear, you will not be allowed to join the hike. No exceptions!

Distance: 6.9 miles

Elevation gain: 2729 ft.

Difficulty: Medium

What to bring:

Expectation:

This is NOT a beginner hike so you must be in good shape and have confidence in finishing it, in winter conditions! We will be keeping a steady 1.8 to 2mph pace throughout the hike and would try to hike as a group. However if you are slowing the group down (this includes myself too) I expect you to have the grace to turn back and wait at the trail head. You must have the gear above or you will be turned away before leaving the carpool spot/trailhead. You are responsible for having a map of this hike; this is not a guided hike. You are joining like-minded enthusiasts and are responsible for your own safety and preparedness. Beyond that lets make this a memorable trip, with great weather and a trip into a winter wonderland. Happy hiking!
