Hike Mt. Flume & Liberty

Come and hike the famous “Fliberty” loop for your chance to peak-bag two 4,000 footers, Mt. Flume and Mt. Liberty. For this hike, we will be taking the Flume Slide Trail to Liberty Spring Trail Loop which is a 9.8 mile moderately trafficked loop trail with Mount Flume being a 4,328 foot mountain and Mount Liberty a 4,459 foot mountain. The first part of this trail is fairly easy but the last mile toward Mount flume is extremely steep, with loose rocks and can be slippery when wet. If you enjoy rock scrambling/climbing, you will love this hike as it has some very steep sections that require some climbing! Then we will head toward Mount Liberty that offers amazing views of the peaks surrounding Franconia Notch State Park. We will hike down by Liberty Spring trail back to the parking lot.

This hike is 9.8 miles long with an elevation gain of 3000+ feet. This hike is not suitable for beginners due to the nearly vertical climb toward flume.

You must have hiked several 4,000 Footers to join this trip. If this is your first hike, please consider gaining some experience on other easier trails before you attempt this. You must be in good shape to join this hike. Do not over-exaggerate your capabilities.

Mandatory list of equipment:

* Several non-cotton layers + a wind shell

* 2 - 3 liters of water in an insulated bottle or otherwise protected from freezing

* Plenty of snacks and electrolyes/ Gatorade

* Headlamp

*Insulated winter hiking boots

* Micro-spikes

* Gaiters

If you hike enough in the Whites, you will know that the weather can change in an instant so come prepared. Better to have the extra layers/gear and not need it then to need it and not have it! No point in being miserable. For your own safety and for those who want to enjoy the hike, those who show up unprepared, will be turned away. No exceptions!

I am not your personal tour guide but we should all hike together and stay together. Hard to get lost on a loop trail but it's best to have a copy of the map downloaded to your phone just in case. You can find a map here:
