Amonoosuc trail is one of the easiest and prettiest trail to get to Mount Washington and Monroe during summer… but it is often overcrowded… If you feel “agoraphobic” or just hate the crowd like me… Well that’s the right time to step on this trail all the way up to Monroe. One of the 48 in the presidential range, with great view of the lake of the cloud and mount Washington… (if no clouds). With a bit luck… we can still see orange leaves…

This hike can be considered as a early taste/initiation of the strong winter elements in the presidential range. Not for cold weewees

If the team is strong enough, we can project to get all the way to Eisenhower. We will NOT go to mount WASHINGTON.

-Monroe : 5 miles- 2500ft elevation gain (check the trail here)
-Monroe+Eisenhower : 10 miles -3500ft + (check trail here)

Weather hazard :

This time of the year is pretty much winter conditions up in the summits above tree line. It can snows with ice on the rocks, we can have strong winds and high humidity in the clouds up there. Every gears in this list is MANDATORY no EXCEPTIONS until I update it when we get closer to the hike.
In Addition, if the weather is too unstable, I am not gonna take the group up there.

BTW, the hut is closed!

YOU:

-Answer to my screening questions. No answers=OUT I want clear answers about the 4000 footers you hiked + brief summary of your hiking experience in winter + gears you will bring.

-Must have hiked several 4000footer in the white mountains. Ideally, hiked in winter-

Please contact me if you don’t have any Winter experience and you would like to join.
-Bring the required gears
-HAVE A LOOK at the MAP (click on the link above) I am NOT a guide

Gears ( for very cold weather, will be update later):
-NO COTTON, synthetic of smartwhool base layer ( top and bottom)
-(insulated) Hiking boot
-microspikes
-hiking poles are optional
-Whool socks + spare ones
-Fleece
-RAINCOAT and RainPANTS!
-Gloves, mittens, winter hat, balaclava…
-HEADLAMPS +spare batteries
-Your safety bag containing a mini CVS and a mini home depot.

Nutrition
-Snacks and meal that does not freeze

-2-2.5L of water + electrolytes contained in an INSULATED (or thermos) water bottle that you will keep INSIDE your bag (then it does not get cold). If you use a water bladder and the weather is cold up there, the water will instantaneously freeze above tree line in the hose when you suck it up! Then… that sucks!

-IBUPROFEN, I sell them 2/pill of 200mg you may need 3 to decrease your pain.

I will SERIOUSLY control your gears. I wanna avoid any drama above treeline at this time of the year. If you don’t bring what I asked, I won’t hesitate to return you back home. Safety first. If you have concerns or further questions, please contact me.
