Heroes are courageous, noble, and steadfast. They engender respect and ignite inspiration. This November, we pay tribute to some incredible heroes by celebrating two landmark anniversaries; 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of both Leonard Bernstein’s birth and the end of World War I.

The first half of our program honors Leonard Bernstein, one of the most influential American musical figures of the twentieth century, who helped spark a generation’s interest in classical music. Then, we turn our focus to the cessation of World War I on November 11, 1918, which ended nearly four years of war. We’ll celebrate not only the end of that conflict, but the men and women, both home and abroad, who have stood up to oppression and tyranny. .

Program:

Overture to Candide – Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990), arr. by Walter Beeler
Profanation from “Jeremiah, Symphony No. 1” – Leonard Bernstein, arr. by Frank Bencriscutto
West Side Story – Leonard Bernstein, Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, arr. by W.J. Duthoit
