Bahamian bassist and singer Selah Poitier combines deep expressive vocals with an eclectic range of genres from modern jazz and neo soul, to hip-hop and R&B, to blues and funk, with some gospel, Afropop and reggae for good measure. Her measured vocals and sassy lyrics, backed by beautiful harmony and a clear comfort with the upright bass, make her ballads irresistible. Poitier cities influences from Erykah Badu and Lauren Hill to Amy Winehouse and Esperanza Spalding, and it’s easy to find all of these fierce women in her sound.
