A "Grumblefest" is a celebration of all things Grumblethorpe of course!

For the past 20+ years Grumblethorpe has invited the public to celebrate Oktoberfest in our beautiful gardens as way of honoring the German ancestry of John Wister and his family. It has been a chance to open up our doors to our neighbors so we can share all the great people and programming at Grumblethorpe.

We have had upwards of 800 people visit us during Grumblethorpe's American Oktoberfest.

GRUMBLEFEST 2016
THIS YEAR we are doing things a bit differently thanks to the British 43rd Regiment of Foot:

THE MAIN EVENT:

SATURDAY October 1, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
"THE Party after The Battle"
Following the Battle of Germantown (Revolutionary Germantown Festival), the celebration CONTINUES back at Grumblethorpe: Oktoberfest food, beer, live music, and general jollification with both the Doodles and Red Coats!

BEFORE THE MAIN EVENT:

FRIDAY Sept 30, 2016 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Members of the British 43rd Regiment of Foot will “occupy” Grumblethorpe as they prepare for The Battle of Germantown… guests are welcome to visit and interact with the soldiers. Other reenactment groups expected to take part are: 42nd Highlanders, 1st NJ Loyalists, 1st NJ Col. Ogden's Regiment, and 2nd NJ Helm's Co.

SATURDAY Morning, Oct 1, 2016, 8:30 AM muster followed by 9:00 AM march
Our resident occupiers will be joined by even more reenactors as they muster in front of Grumblethorpe for the march up Germantown Avenue to Cliveden to partake in The Battle! Expect to see: officers, infantry, musicians, and camp followers, with the Highlanders leading the way.

Please Note:

While Entrance to Grumblefest is FREE, we DO charge for food and various activities such as tours of our historic Grumblethorpe House. Oktoberfest style beer is available through suggested donations. This is an important fundraiser for Grumblethorpe and PhilaLandmarks...this is how we keep the lights on and our doors open!
