Spring has sprung and now is the time to plant bare root strawberries, raspberries and ornamentals to enjoy this summer and beyond. Celebrate Earth Day with Greensgrow West’s farm team on Sunday, April 22 from 11am – 12pm as they show you step-by-step how to ready bare roots for planting, with tips for choosing the right-sized container or in-ground location. Get the right plants in the right place!
You’ll get hands on planting your own Root Pouch container with your choice of strawberries, raspberries or flower bulbs. Talk soil, light, position, care, and maintenance for your particular container and conditions. Learn about bare roots like strawberries, raspberries, seed potatoes, horseradish, asparagus, rhizomes, corms and bulbs of all sorts, and what to do with your non-hardy bulbs in the fall when the weather starts to cool.
Cost for this workshop is $30* and registration is required. At the end of the class, take home your Root Pouch and handy info sheets. Bring gloves if you have them. This workshop is at Greensgrow West, 5123 Baltimore Avenue, Philadelphia in their outdoor, but covered, classroom. Please dress for the weather and bring gloves and pruners if you have them! Staff expert Lee is a lifelong gardener with five very hands-on years’ experience in gardening and landscape design.
*PLEASE NOTE: Cancellations within 72 hours of the start of class are nonrefundable or transferable. Workshop refunds and transfers requested earlier than 72 hours before the class start time will be charged a $5.00 processing fee.
