Underground Railroad comes to life through Freedom Bound
Freedom Bound is a musical telling the true story of Addison White, a fugitive from Kentucky who traveled north on the Underground Railroad. Addison White escapes in 1851 to Ohio where he is befriended by a farmer named Udney Hyde. It is not long before White is discovered, and federal marshals surround Hyde’s house in the middle of the night. Over 100 neighbors confront the marshals and demand they set White free.

Performed by Mad River Theater Works as part of a nationwide tour, Freedom Bound uses drama and songs to create characters who emerge from the past to bring the nineteenth-century Underground Railroad to life.
Mad River Theater Works is a professional touring company based in Zanesfield, Ohio, that crafts plays drawn from historical figures. Theater members research historical issues with contemporary relevance and then create original plays with music.
The show at Timilty School at 4:00 p.m. on January 31 is intended for adults, teens, and children age 10 and up. Free admission to Freedom Bound in celebration of Black History Month is provided by Madison Park Development Corporation with funding support from the Barr Foundation.
