Free Workshop: Ableton Live: Turning Ideas Into Songs w/ Mitchell Owens

Ableton Live gives us the ability to customize our work-space using templates and proprietary hardware that makes it easy come up with musical ideas in a loop based environment and to then transfer that to a more traditional DAW work-space to arrange, mix, and master the song. In this workshop we will take a look at the tools that Ableton Live provides to create musical ideas and develop them into full songs. By utilizing Ableton Live's unique Session View, and the Ableton Push, we will create a song from scratch using various MIDI instruments as well as edited audio samples. Lastly, we will take our initial idea and then expand upon it by transferring our work to Ableton Live's Arrangement view and talk about techniques for developing a small musical idea into a fully arranged song.

Mitchell Owens is a Boston based Music Producer and DJ that produces and performs under the moniker Subalias. With seven years of music production and performance experience in genres ranging from R&B, Hip-Hop, House, and Techno, Mitchell provides a well rounded approach to not only music production, but also sound design, synthesis, and songwriting. Mitchell is currently one of the music production instructors at Mmmmaven DJ & Music Production School in Cambridge, MA.
