Summer is all about relaxation, and there’s no better way to escape from reality than by watching a good movie. But summer’s also all about spending time outdoors and taking full advantage of the balmy nights. That’s why we’ve rounded up the very best and FREE outdoor movies showing around Boston in the next few months. From Disney family favorites to spooky sci-fis, there’s a flick for everyone.

COOLIDGE AT THE GREENWAY

Coolidge Corner Theatre is a historic Boston landmark. It’s a haven for cinephiles and indie-film obsessors. It’s expanding to the beautiful Greenway this summer to show movies under the dazzling night sky. 

SUMMER FLICKS AT PATRIOT PLACE

Patriot Place in Foxborough is offering a range of great films this year, from family-fun childhood tales to adventures that all ages will love. Bring some popcorn and a friend and get ready for an exciting evening.

BOSTON LANDING OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHTS

This one’s for the classic movie buffs. With options for delicious food and drink, great seats and swag, and your favorite film on a massive inflatable screen, what’s not to love? 

FRIDAY FLICKS AT BOYNTON YARDS

Free outdoor movies with popcorn, candy, and fun? What more could we ask for? This summer at Boynton Yards, you can enjoy yard games before sunset and then watch your fave flick once the sky goes dark.

SUMMER MOVIE NIGHTS AT THE BOSTON KROC

Whether you’re seven or seventy, you’ll enjoy outdoor screenings at The Boston Kroc this summer. Plus, before the movie starts, enjoy free entertainment, exciting games, and delicious food under the stars. 

THEATRE THURSDAYS AT REVERE BEACH

Spend a day trip at Revere Beach: the perfect spot to swim and sunbathe. But when the weather’s cooled off and night falls, make sure not to leave without watching a movie on the beach. 

FAMILY FLICKS AT THE PRUDENTIAL CENTER

Check out a perfect opportunity to spend an evening with your kiddos. This family-friendly movie series offers tales of princesses, ogres and trolls.  

MOVIES AT THE MANSION 

Perhaps you’ve watched a movie on your couch, on your bed, in a theater, or even at a drive-through. But have you ever seen one at a mansion? This summer, you can watch films on the grounds of Waltham’s historic Lyman Estate. Take a journey back in time and catch a fun film while you’re at it.

SUMMER SUNDAY MOVIES AT CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS PARK

At this classic North End spot, you can watch some of Hollywood’s best films right on the water. Whether you decide to rewatch a classic or learn something meaningful, there’s a perfect flick for anyone. 

CX OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHTS

For fun flicks under the stars, head to the expansive Dawe’s Field to enjoy free double-feature nights. There will be opportunities to purchase refreshments.  

MAYOR’S MOVIE NIGHTS

Every summer, the Mayor’s Movie Nights series runs in city parks around Boston. The extravaganza starts in South Boston and ends Downtown, so you can catch your favorite movie in almost every neighborhood! 

FILMS AT THE GATE FESTIVAL

Each summer, during the last weekend of August, the Asian Community Development Corporation hosts Films at the Gate, and this summer, they’re back for their 17th year. At the Chinatown Gate, you can catch a range of exciting movies, all which highlight the stories of Asian immigrants and honor the work of Asian American filmmakers.

THE ROXBURY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

The MFA hosts the largest festival in New England that celebrates people of color around the world. The Roxbury International Film Festival (ROXFILM) has screenings both in-person and online, and you can watch incredible documentary features, shorts, animation, experiential movies, and youth films.

FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES AT THE LORING GREENOUGH HOUSE

You can watch movies on the Loring Greenough House lawn through early fall. This historic Jamaica Plain home dates back to 1760 but still stands today as a cultural and social hub for all Bostonians to enjoy. Pack a picnic and bring some friends to stretch out on the grass for some wholesome fun.  

Cost: $5-7

THE BOSTON FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL

 Oui, oui. The Boston French Film Festival showcases some of the best French films yet. Grab a glass of wine at Taste and enjoy this annual summer tradition. All films have English subtitles. 

Cost: $12-15
