A Lecture with Dr. Paul Wolpe:


How do societies think about regulating and controlling new, powerful advances in biotechnology? One way is to encourage scientists to think about science as an ethical activity, to use their moral compass in their work. In this talk, we compare the Jewish legend of the Golem and Mary Shelley’s story of Frankenstein, and their different portrayals of humanity, to seek guidance for these modern ethical dilemmas.


Paul Root Wolpe, Ph.D, Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Bioethics the Raymond F. Schinazi Distinguished Research Chair in Jewish Bioethics, a Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Sociology, and the Director of the Center for Ethics at Emory University, and Senior Bioethicist for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
