The Esplanade Association invites you to attend the Frances "Fanny" Appleton Footbridge Ribbon Cutting on Tuesday, September 10 at 10am.

Hosted along with our partners at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, the event will feature remarks from public officials, including Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, MassDOT Secretary Stephanie Pollock, and DCR Commissioner Leo Roy.

The Fanny Appleton Footbridge opened to the public one year ago, providing a universally-accessible link from the Charles Circle to the Esplanade. Part of MassDOT's Longfellow Bridge Rehabilitation Project, the award-winning footbridge was beautifully designed by Rosales + Partners.

During the planning process for the Longfellow Bridge, representatives from the Esplanade Association successfully advocated for this connection to the park, in addition to working with State Representatives Marty Walz and Jay Livingstone to pass legislation to name the bridge, which honors the wife of one of America's greatest poets -- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The Fanny Appleton Footbridge is one of only a few bridges in the state named for a woman!

We hope you will join us to celebrate!
