In this three-day hands-on weekend workshop, you will use the captivating architecture of Boston as your inspiration as you practice the essential skills and techniques to feel confident with your camera and its settings. See Boston’s most iconic places in a whole new way – from Beacon Hill to the North End, and from the Back Bay to the Waterfront, you’ll gain valuable perspective and capture the stunning autumn light.

Your instructor is Ossian Lindholm, a professional landscape photographer visiting from Argentina. He will share his 40 years of photography experience with each student through daily critiques and mind-provoking one-on-one meetings.

Ossian will simultaneously increase your visual awareness and inspire you to intuitively use the camera to connect, compose, enhance and expand your personal vision. Ossian’s accessible and engaging teaching style creates a welcome atmosphere for learning the technical processes of digital photography.

The course begins on Friday afternoon with an introduction to digital photography and ends on Sunday evening with a festive dinner in the Back Bay at Porto, Chef Jody Adams’s newest Mediterranean creation. We will share our work and celebrate our discoveries as we savor the culinary artistry one of Boston’s most celebratory chefs.

By the workshop’s end, you will be using your camera in manual mode with ease and exploring the creative side of photography!

Ossian’s intensive workshop will focus on four key areas of the travel photography experience:

1 Getting off “Auto” and learning all your camera settings
2 Perception and Imaging: When you look at a place, what do you see and feel? What do you want your audience to see and feel?
3 Composition: What are the basic proven compositional guidelines for creating winning photographs. Much like the classic rules of painting or creative writing, what is the visual “grammar” that a photographer must learn to better compose what he desires and to do so with better clarity.
4 Capturing Light: Waiting, Chasing and Helping. What kinds of light can travel photographers anticipate and wait for? What skills and techniques for enhancing, reducing, or controlling light can the photographers use? How to work with transient and serendipitous light that travel photographers have to work quickly to exploit.

Cost: $250 3 days: Includes Professional instruction, handouts and a final Mediterranean feast at Porto, Chef Jody Adams’ newest culinary creation in the Back Bay.
