Join us for an opening reception to celebrate the designers of the winning garments from The Boston Athenæum and Lasell College Design Project. Forty-five first-year fashion design students from Lasell College drew inspiration from items in the Athenæum's special collections to sketch and plan daywear garments for women. The show, open to the public at no charge, will be on view in the Bayard Henry Long Room of the Boston Athenæum from May 6 to 8.
An innovator in education since 1851, Lasell College is a comprehensive, coeducational college offering professionally oriented bachelor's and master's degree programs. The fashion program has long been part of the Lasell curriculum and the department is currently the largest on campus, offering undergraduate degrees and minors in Fashion & Retail Merchandising, Fashion Communication & Promotion, and Fashion Design & Production.

The Athenæum's five galleried floors overlook the peaceful Granary Burying Ground, and, as Gamaliel Bradford wrote in 1931, "it is safe to say that [no library] anywhere has more an atmosphere of its own, that none is more conducive to intellectual aspiration and spiritual peace." The building was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1966.
