Fashion Design: Fitting & Alterations Studio

Course Summary

Bring your fashion sewing projects to this studio class and learn how to improve your fitting skills. We’ll tackle tricky fitting issues and pattern manipulation techniques relevant to your project to help you get a perfectly fitted final piece. You can learn to improve the fit of anything from a ball gown bodice to a blouse or a skirt in this workshop.

What we will do

· Learn basic fitting techniques to improve the fit of your personal fashion projects

· Learn how to tackle tricky fitting problems such as bust size alterations, raising or lowering the waist, accommodating asymmetry, and sleeve fitting

· Learn how to transfer alterations from a garment or mock-up onto a pattern

About the Instructor : Alexander Chesebro

Alexander Chesebro is a historical costumer and living history interpreter with a specialization in foundation garments. Alexander has created corsets and stays for living history events and private clients across the U.S., including for performers at The Great Dickens Christmas Fair in San Francisco. His design process relies on extensive research examining extant garments in both his personal collection and museum archives in order to produce comfortable foundation garments with period correct silhouettes. Alexander also collects and documents historical textiles, specializing in silk brocades and woolens from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. He is thrilled to offer new classes on making foundation garments here in the Boston area.
