Our Fall Business Breakfast returns – virtually – on Wed. Nov. 17th. This signature annual event – our 106th - is a celebration of the leadership, resilience and impact of our region’s businesses and nonprofits. All registration proceeds will directly support the chamber’s “Nourishing” program to purchase meals from local restaurants for residents facing food insecurity in our communities.

This year’s featured speaker has Newton roots but his innovations in biotechnology have improved the lives of millions across the globe.

Dr. Robert Langer – an Institute Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology – is a chemical engineer, scientist, inventor and entrepreneur. A co-founder of Moderna and over 40 other companies, Langer holds over 1000 patents and is one of the most published and cited scholars of all time in any field.

Langer’s breakthrough research and business acumen has advanced the delivery of life-saving medical treatments including mRNA vaccines, insulin, anti-cancer drugs and more. His patents have been licensed or sublicensed to help launch over 350 pharmaceutical, chemical, biotech and medical device companies --- many of which are headquartered in our region.

Dr. Langer served as Chairman of the FDA’s Science Board (its highest advisory board) from 1999-2002. His over 220 awards include both the United States National Medal of Science and the United States National Medal of Technology and Innovation (he is one of three living individuals to have received both these honors).

Forbes Magazine has cited Dr. Langer as one of the 15 innovators world wide who will reinvent our future. Time Magazine named him one of the 100 most important people in America. And NPR called him “a modern-day Thomas Edison.”
