Emergency Rally for Suffolk Downs: Affordable Housing Now!

(español abajo) The Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) plans to vote on the plan for #SuffolkDowns on Thursday, February 13th, 2020. The plan is to build a new neighborhood in the heart of East Boston with 10,000 new, mostly luxury, housing units.

We’re demanding that HALF of these units be affordable to families earning 30% of the area median income. We also need real protections from #displacement for the surrounding community in the plan. And we need a public process that is accessible to non-English speakers.

Tom O’Brien of HYM Investment Group, alongside his Texas billionaire funder William Bruce Harrison, are refusing to build the level of #affordablehousing that East Boston residents desperately need in this primarily working class, immigrant area. They’re also refusing to truly help protect the surrounding area from displacement, and many of the most impacted residents have been excluded from the community process leading up to the vote.

The time is NOW to speak up and march with us in this pivotal moment before the vote. We need strong, meaningful improvements to the plan before the BPDA votes! Join us to create a just future for our city.
