Elma Lewis Playhouse in the Park is a beloved Franklin Park institution with concerts and performances throughout the summer. The current Playhouse emulates the original summer series brought to the community from 1966-1978 by Elma Lewis, renowned Roxbury arts leader. Located in the footprint of the Overlook Shelter ruins, the Playhouse brought national musicians to the Franklin Park stage, including Duke Ellington who opened the season every fourth of July weekend until his death.


All performances are free and open to the public! Don’t miss a single show – 2015 season begins Tuesday, July 14th – and runs every Tuesday through August 18th.


Morning shows are for summer camps and families. OrigiNation will get you up and dancing. Evening shows are for everyone, bring lawn chairs, a picnic supper and all your friends to hear Boston’s best local talent. Remember, no smoking or alcohol use in the park. Barbecue grills not permitted at the Playhouse site. There’ll be vendors and food trucks this year!
