Echoes of the Past
Free Interactive History Gaming Event in Downtown Boston

Boston, MA – Echoes of the Past is a free single-day gaming event presented by the Bostonian Society that will immerse its players in the story of Boston’s historic demonstrations against the Stamp Act. The game blends live historical characters, puzzle-solving, and mystery to create a unique experience that unravels a compelling true story that happened in Boston’s streets exactly 250 years ago when frustrated colonists took the first bold steps on the road to Revolution.

On August 15th from 12:00 p. m. to 4:00 p.m. players of all ages are invited to begin their adventure by picking up a guide booklet at the Old State House admission desk, or at any of the Downtown Crossing information booths. With the guidebook in hand (or using a web version on a mobile device) players will hunt for ghosts, or “Echoes of the Past.” These ghosts (live costumed interpreters) will quickly draw players into the political intrigues of 1765. With riddles, ciphers, secret societies, grudges, and plots, every interaction will entertain and enlighten, and every player’s choices will make their experience unique. After collecting a stamp for their book from each character in the game, players will discover the game’s thrilling climax at 4:00 p.m. when they join together with an 18th-century mob to participate in a protest march from Downtown Crossing to the hub of colonial power, the Old State House.

The Bostonian Society is bringing Echoes of the Past to the public free of charge to further the Society’s mission. By using the approachable and engaging platforms of gaming, theatre, and interactive storytelling, the Society hopes this game will show new audiences that history is fun.

About The Bostonian Society
The Bostonian Society was established in 1881 “to preserve Boston’s historic past, and explain the revolutionary ideas born here.” For 134 years, it has managed the Old State House, the oldest and most important public building in American history prior to the Revolution, where, John Adams insisted “Independence was born.” It now serves as a museum and historic site, open to the public 7 days a week, from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm (until 6:00 pm from Memorial Day to Labor Day).
