Join us for a fun-filled week of educational programming, as we learn about ways to help the environment! In collaboration with guest educator Kim Bent of Catch the Science Bug, the Library will offer activities centered on smart ways to care for the Earth. Each day will feature a morning and an afternoon interactive workshop, as well as drop-in art activities. And don’t forget to explore the Mapparium all week—it’s free for everyone 17 and younger!
Workshops
Spying on spotted salamanders
What are vernal pools? Why are they so important to spotted salamanders? In this workshop we’ll look closely at the ecosystems where salamanders live—and think about ways we can help protect them.
Registration is required.

Thirst quenching
How does water move through the ground and flow into reservoirs and wells? In this workshop we’ll learn about pollution prevention, conservation—and how water is used in our world. Working together, we’ll make water filters modeled after the Earth.
Registration is required.
Talking trash
We all throw things away—but where does our trash go? This workshop shows the impact that trash has on the Earth. We’ll learn how to effectively accomplish the “three R’s”—reduce, reuse, recycle—to help the environment.
Registration is required.

Drop-in Activities

Art-cycling
Create eco-friendly projects with recycled materials donated by The Boston Society of Architects Foundation. Make an endangered animal sculpture—or even your own terrarium!
