Duo Maresienne (Carol Lewis, viola da gamba; Olav Chris Henriksen, vihuela & theorbo) play some lively music from 16th and 17th-century Spain and Italy. There will be recercadas by Ortiz, a Tastar de Corde and duos by Dalza, a Canon and a fantasia by Francesco da Milano, and vihuela solos by Gorzanis. There will also be a beautiful fantasia on a Spanish melody by Bartolomeo de Selma y Salaverde, a toccata and settings of popular Neapolitan melodies by Kapsberger. The concert concludes with a spectacular set of variations by the English viola da gamba virtuoso Henry Butler, who moved to Spain, where he was known as Enrique Botelero.
