The wild Festival of Dionysus from Ancient Greece meets modern underground club culture in Cyclops: A Satyr Play--an audience fueled performance event celebrating the only surviving Satyr Play.
Following a sold-out workshop last fall, Cyclops returns to Oberon, the immersive second stage of the American Repertory Theatre, with an expanded production this September.
This interactive experience, conceived and directed by James Blaszko, reimagines the classic tale of Odysseus and his crew marooned on the island of the Cyclops amidst a sea of electronica, alternative rock, drinking, and artificial phalluses. A theatrical hybrid on its way to becoming a new cult classic, the best way to understand Cyclops and its following among culture vultures and club-goers alike is to experience it for yourself.
Cyclops: A Satyr Play creates an interactive world for the audience to inhabit. When you come to Oberon, you can expect to get swept up in the excitement! There are several ways to partake in the experience:
DEITY SEATING:
Begin the show dancing and drinking among the mortals, and then retire to Mount Olympus with reserved seating and table service from the bar. An excellent option for lovers of the classics and those who want to have a more selective hand in their engagement with the show.
--$25
DANCE FLOOR:
Followers of the Cult of Dionysus can expect to get up close and personal with ancient Bacchic spirits and directly contribute to bringing the satyr play back to life. There is limited general seating available on the sidelines for revelers who "like to watch," and hardcore fans can rejoice the return of the Satyr Circle. Dressing up is always welcomed, but don't feed the satyrs!
--$15 - $20
