]For one night, Mamma Maria will offer oenophiles the rare opportunity to try the Don Antonio Riserva 2016 from the southern Sicilian winery, Morgante, during their March 9 Cru Night. Cru Night participants will be the exclusive purveyors of this wine as it is not currently available in Massachusetts and is rarely offered by the glass.
The Don Antonio is aged gracefully in 3-liter bottles, referred to in Italy as Formati lmportanti. The wine is a fine Nero d’Avola with a deep purple color suggesting an aroma of voluptuous ripe cherries, rose, sweet spices, licorice, and cocoa. It is a silky red wine but with an imposing structure enhancing a blend of refined tannins.
Mamma Maria is one of three restaurants in Massachusetts to join this national Cru Night, where over 35 restaurants around the country will simultaneously pour this prestigious wine.
Glasses of the featured wine will be available at Mamma Maria on March 9 until sold out. Mamma Maria offers dinner seating from 5 to 9:15 p.m. Reservations are recommended.
