We have revised our Crime and Punishment in Early Boston tour this year to introduce more detail relating to some of the individuals involved in the early colonial system of justice. We hope that in this 90 minute tour we can help you to understand the Puritan's reasoning behind their criminal penalties as you learn about some of the people on both the giving and receiving ends of the Puritan punishments.

The Puritan churches and the civil government defined appropriate behavior and took action when rules were broken. On this tour, you'll learn where Bostonians sited their stocks, whipping post, gaol, and gallows. We'll explore the Puritan values implict in public punishment as we bring the story to life with fascinating examples of early colonial crimes and punishments.

There is no charge to register for this tour. We suggest a donation of $10 per person to help us defray the costs for operating our tours for public education.
