This Crawl Out Thursday will focus on the love of home. Anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston focused on the cultural traditions of African peoples throughout the Diaspora as they made homes in the lands to which they were displaced. Inspired by Hurston’s visionary leadership, June’s event will be hosted by YallaPunk, a Philadelphia based cultural arts organization that is redefining the narrative for Southwest Asian North African individuals through the arts. Come and experience a series of performance works engaging the topics of diaspora, home, and identity. Featuring the poetic prowess of Andrea Abi-Karam, Arab-American genderqueer punk poet-performer; experimental writer, educator and performance poet Maryan Nagy Captan; and Becca Khalil, Egyptian-American poet, actor and performance artist, this evening will also incorporate a collaborative performance from Roger Mgrdichian and Julius Masri, as well as the talents of DJ Rana Ransom. Come through, experience great performances, and meet friends old and new.
Admission: $15; cash bar available. Open to the public.
