1hr 39mins // directed by: Alfonso Cuarón // featuring: Clive Owen, Michael Caine, Julianne Moore, Chiwetel Ejiofor // 35mm

Seven years before he sent Sandra Bullock adrift in space, Academy Award-winning director Alfonso Cuáron (Gravity) plunged audiences into a frightening, dystopian future in his powerful adaptation of the P.D. James novel Children of Men.

Hailed by The New York Times as a “superbly directed political thriller...about a nervously plausible future,” Children of Men immerses us in a world engulfed in violence, where women can no longer bear children.

It is the year 2027, and it has been 18 years since the last baby was born. Explosions erupt in cafes, surveillance cameras abound, armed guards roam the streets, and illegal immigrants are hauled into teeming refugee camps. Theo (Clive Owen), a jaded employee of the Ministry of Energy, tunes out the chaos that surrounds him, but finds his apolitical stance challenged by the reappearance of his former lover, Julian (Julianne Moore). Now the leader of an underground immigrant rights group, Julian pleads with Theo to help escort a young female refugee out of the country. After reluctantly agreeing to lend a hand, Theo discovers that the refugee is harboring a shocking, hopeful secret: she is pregnant.

What does the future really hold for fertility rates, and what treatments are being developed to treat infertility? Before the film, reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist Dr. David Ryley will give us an overview of where we’re at, and where we’re headed in the years to come.
