The upcoming exhibit will feature paintings of Renée Caouette. The exhibit will be on display May 9 – 31, 2017.
Public will have a chance to meet Renée three times:
at the opening reception on Friday evening, May 12, from 6 to 9pm,
at her Art demonstration the next day – on Saturday, May 13 from 12 to 2 pm,
at her Art Talk on Sunday, May 21 from 2 to 4pm.
Renée has lived between Boston and Paris, France for the past five years studying fine art and art history. She has traveled throughout Europe and North America researching artwork ranging from the primitive and ancient to contemporary arts. Aesthetically, Renée’s work is influenced by her classical sensibilities and art historical background that have developed throughout her travels and studies. In these paintings and her continued work, Renée explores ubiquitous themes through the eyes of a millennial such as identity, feminism, death, equality, and addiction, making her work not a quotidian narrative but rather a relevant and relatable story. As a professional female artist, Renée feels the need to express the American (and really Global) zeitgeist, and the expanding Diaspora of the world. Grounded in realism and figurative narratives, her works are highly conceptual; everything is thoughtful with a subtle message. Fascinated with the symbolism of the northern renaissance, the grotesque, mysticism, and contemporary performance arts, Renée has fused these ideas together to create a body of work that is uniquely her own as a representational artist in a contemporary art world. In June 2016 she was awarded a grant by The Ringholz Foundation to fund her latest painting project, and invited to the Bakehouse Art Complex Residency Program during Miami Art Basel. Renée has exhibited throughout the United States and France, including Paris, New York City, Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles, among others. She was invited to join the Copley Society of Boston and the Salmagundi Club of NYC last year. Most recently, the muralist, Kent Twitchell, awarded her the “Patron Award” at the Brand Art Center’s 43rd annual juried exhibition in Los Angeles, CA. He commented that her work shows “devotion to the picture plane; she is not trying to jump on anyone’s bandwagon” and “sincerity”, making her work valuable and unique in the art world.
Painting Demonstration on Saturday, May 13 from 12 to 2 pm:
Renée will demonstrate a still life painting from life in oils using the "alla prima" technique. She will explain the importance of value, tone, strong light, and drawing technique within painting. Using a still life set up from life, you can see the process and how to make an organized and compositionally thoughtful painting.
Artist’s Talk on Sunday, May 21 from 2 to 4pm:
"Networking, Artistic collaborations and synthesis of arts"
"Networking for the art market: importance of community and collaborating with artists". Renée will discuss her craft, process, and how to network and make the most of collaborations in the artists' community. She will share a bit about her work, herself, and her different art projects, including the latest workshops with Simona Minns.
Simona Minns is going to present her contemporary performance company "Syntheater", and discuss different ways of synthesizing diverse forms of artistic expression. Can a painting sing? Can a piece of music speak in colors and shapes? Can a dancer move based on mathematical equation? What are the commonalities between all the arts? These and more similar questions will be brought and discussed during Simona's presentation.
Simona’s bio:
Simona Minns is a jazz singer, composer and artistic director originally from Lithuania, currently living and working in Boston MA. Simona has degrees in jazz vocal performance from The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater and a composition degree from Berklee College of Music of Boston MA. In 2015 Simona was awarded the Berklee Outstanding Jazz Vocalist Award. As a performer she embraces a wide range of styles and genres, such as jazz standards, her own jazz arrangements, contemporary music, original compositions and traditional Lithuanian music. Simona has founded a contemporary performance company "Syntheater" which produces dance theater performances, artistic workshops, and networking events in the Greater Boston Area. Simona's latest project "A Hunger Artist" recently received The Boston Foundation Live Arts Boston grant award.
