Once again we're opening and welcoming you back to the Boston Shambhala Center! Come see what's happening! Join us in-person on Saturday for talks, workshops, practices and socializing. Events are 45-50 minutes. Come for some or come for all. Vaccination and masks required.

Schedule

9:30 am Doors open, coffee, conversation, tours of the building,

10 - 10:50 - Collective Liberation - What We Can Learn from Black Buddhist Teachers
The Black experience in America, like the teachings of Sakyamuni Buddha, begins in suffering. Join the leaders of the Boston Center’s Collective Liberation initiative to explore the truth of that suffering, as well as the path of liberation promised by the Buddha, from the words and writings of several Black Buddhist teachers. Judy Vreeland, Dan Johnson, Travis DeTour

11:10 - noon - Let’s Talk About Death
Join Nealy Zimmermann and Mary Lang for a contemplative workshop on the end of life. The workshop will include meditation, open small group conversations about death in a supportive, compassionate environment, and time at the end for Q&A about both the practical and spiritual aspects of end-of-life planning. Resources will be provided.

12 - 1 - BYO brown bag lunch, chance for socializing, follow up conversations in small groups

1 - 1:50 - Self-Compassionate Meditation
Many of us approach meditation with the same harsh self-criticism that burdens us off the cushion as well. In this workshop, you will learn core principles of self-compassion and explore how they can be infused into your meditation practice. Kate King

2:10 - 3 - Working With Our Cultural Obscurations
Crises of the past several years, both within our community and in the larger world, have sounded a wake up call to areas of cultural ignorance that have limited our perspective. Through bringing inquisitiveness and vulnerability to these areas of ignorance, we can open to new possibilities for experiencing enlightened society -- not as a remote ideal but as a living practice. Dylan Khanal and Janet Romaine

3 - 3:30 - Take Away Circle/gathering

3:30 - 4 - Tea, reception

We'll offer tours of the building and meditation instruction periodically (as requested) throughout the day.
