A long time ago, in a galaxy far away… Freud discovered a new hope for civilization and its discontents- the unconscious. Prior to his explorations, slips and accidents were thought by many to be triggered by a force outside the self. Freud’s ideas strike back against that and challenge us to face the dark and light sides within ourselves. Recently science and the unconscious have been under assault. Let’s return to the Jedi Luke, back to the 1970s, and talk and see how it speaks to us today. Is there a new hope for us in dark times? Can war return us to galactic peace?

Presenter: William Sharp, Psya.D. is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Brookline Village. He is a lecturer at Northeastern University and is on the faculty at the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis. He is author of the textbook, Talking Helps: An Evidence Based Approach to Psychoanalytic Counseling and loves using media to reflect psychoanalytic ideas for the masses.
