The City of Waltham, Department of Conservation and Recreation, Mass State Police, and Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy are pleased to announce this year’s Independence Day Celebrations!


Saturday, July 1st


Fireworks will be set off from a barge set up in the Charles River near Moody Street Bridge! Fireworks will begin at dusk on Saturday, July 1st. The Moody Street Bridge (139 Moody Street at the Riverwalk to Moody/Pine Streets) will be closed to vehicular traffic and open to pedestrian traffic only starting at 4PM on Saturday, July 1st. 


The following are potential viewing areas for the Fireworks Display:

  • Waltham Common – Carter St side & the Moody St side
  • Moody St Bridge – premier viewing area
  • Riverwalk – The northbound portion of the Riverwalk entering from Moody St near stone wall, or southbound portion of the Riverwalk near Margarita’s (access to the Prospect St entrance to the Riverwalk will be denied)
  • McDevitt School Field – Church St side of the McDevitt School offers a distant view point
  • Crescent Street Municipal Lot
  • Walnut Street Municipal Lot
  • Fitch School
  • Church Street Municipal Lot
  • Landry Park – Close to the stone wall near the waterfall

  • Sunday, July 2nd & Monday, July 3rdThere are no events planned for July 2nd or 3rd. Make note of the schedule in Waltham for the Independence Day holiday on Tuesday, July 4th. 


    Tuesday, July 4thThe Waltham Recreation Department is hosting a free July 4th Family Celebration at Prospect Hill Park from 10am-2pm, featuring food vendors, music, inflatables, patriotic crafts & games, amusements, and an animal show! See here for full event schedule and map
