Ensemble Origo is joined by Daniel Lee (concertmaster and piccolo violin) and the University of Connecticut Collegium Musicum to perform stunning Baroque cantatas. Settings of "Christ lag in Todesbanden" by Sebastien Knüpfer, one of Bach's predecessors in Leipzig, and Bach's well known setting of the same tune will be accompanied by period orchestra. The Knüpfer will be a modern premiere and features three bombards (large forerunners of the oboe) and a string orchestra that includes the piccolo violin, an instrument prevalent in Leipzig during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Also on the program is Bach's motet Lobet den Herrn and his ricercar for six parts. There will be an introductory talk 30 minutes before each performance.
