Chinatown Presents Speak Your Genki: A Mini Performance + Community Conversation
Genki is the Japanese word that means, HAPPY, HEALTHY, and FULL OF LIFE! Experience the power taiko (Japanese drumming) has to bring people together. One year after the election, we ask, "How can we build communities of respect?" Through performance, spoken word, creative story telling, and audience engagement come meet new people, share your thoughts, get inspired, and contribute to creating a positive environment.
Suggested Donation: $10
Doors open at 4:00PM with a light reception. Come early to grab a snack & a great seat!
About The Genki Spark:
Launched the summer of 2010 with a workshop hosted by the Asian American women's organization, ASPIRE and a performance with the Boston Asian American Film Festival, The Genki Spark is a multi-generational, pan-Asian women's arts and advocacy organization that uses taiko drumming, personal stories, and creativity to build community, develop leadership, and promote respect for all.
The Genki Spark has provided programming for hundreds of universities and schools, community events, and cultural celebrations throughout the greater Boston area and as far as California and the UK. They are celebrated and recognized as a leader in the greater North American and International taiko community.
About the Pao Arts Center:
Through arts, culture, and education, the BCNC Pao Arts Center brings together community members across generations to reclaim a critical piece of Chinatown history to create healthy families and vibrant community. In partnership with Bunker Hill Community College, BCNC opened the Pao Arts Center in 2017 to be Chinatown's first community-based arts center and Boston's newly dedicated Asian American and Asian immigrant cultural space.
