Chameleon Arts Ensemble resumes its acclaimed Up Close series with a recital featuring flutist Deborah Boldin and pianist Vivian Choi. The Boston Musical Intelligencer praised the duo: “Choi provided the supercharged chase-plane that permitted our closeups of Boldin’s fluttering and gyrating bird, and from both players we got freedom, theatricality and interaction that sounded perfectly right.”

Song, poetry, and myth come together in this classical recital program for flute and piano. Schubert’s virtuoso variations expand on the story of the wanderer’s love for the miller’s daughter, Jeremy Gill invents an imagined musical past from Ancient Greek drama, and Debussy launches a revolution in sound and form with the ethereal voice of the flute.

PROGRAM:
Samuel Barber, Canzone, Op. 38a
Francis Poulenc, Sonata, FP 164
Jeremy Gill, Parabasis - Boston Premiere
Claude Debussy, Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune (arr. Samazeuilh)
Franz Schubert, Variations on Trockne Blumen from Die schöne Müllerin, Op. 160, D. 802

The Goethe-Institut will be transformed into an intimate cabaret setting with table seating and a complimentary glass of wine, and the concert will be hosted by composer Jeremy Gill.
