Regarded for her beautiful tone and innate musicality, classical guitarist Candice Mowbray expresses the lyrical and communicative quality of her playing through artful programming of classic and contemporary works. Her playing once elicited from a famous ballerina, “it makes me want to dance,” and guitar virtuoso John Feeley described her as "a beautiful player, so expressive and musical."


Appearing as a soloist, chamber musician and guest lecturer, Mowbray has been a featured artist at many prestigious festivals and concert series such as the Guitar Foundation of America Convention in Los Angeles, Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society Series, Bethlehem Guitar Festival, Austin Peay GuitarFest, Ibero-American Guitar Festival at the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian, Knoxville Guitar Series, Kreykenbohm Lecture Series and Maryland Symphony Orchestra's "Let's Talk Music" series. She has been a soloist with the National String Symphonia, ProArte Chamber Orchestra of Greater Washington, Satori Chamber Ensemble and Maryland Symphony Orchestra, the later with whom she premiered two dedicated arrangements. A sought-after collaborator, Mowbray is highly active as a chamber musician and can be regularly heard performing in The Fairfield Duo with flutist and shakuhachi player, Nora Suggs.


Mowbray was profiled in Classical Guitar Magazine’s, "Letter from New York" and her lectures have been described as "enthusiastic" and "insightful" in Classical Guitar Magazine and The Morning Call. Her recent solo CD, Reverie, has been met with positive acclaim from guitar enthusiasts as well as general music audiences, and was featured on radio shows such as The Intimate Guitar (Dayton, OH) and Musica Mundi (Boulder, CO). The album features an evocative program of twentieth-century and contemporary French compositions including rarely recorded solo works by Ida Presti and Alexandre Lagoya.


Mowbray earned the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Classical Guitar Performance at Shenandoah Conservatory where she completed her thesis about Ida Presti as a solo performer and composer of works for solo guitar. Private lessons with Dr. Glenn Caluda and the internationally renowned Paraguayan guitarist, Berta Rojas, greatly informed her playing. Also influential were lessons and masterclasses with many distinguished performing artists including Sharon Isbin, Roland Dyens, Julian Gray, Ron Pearl, Angel Romero, Ricardo Cobo, Eduardo Isaac, Maximo Diego Pujol, Victor Villadangos and Carlos Barbosa-Lima.
