Muse Stew will be performing a program of Latin Jazz at the ArtLington ArtLounge on Sunday, December 17th, 2017 from 7-9p. “Caliente Meets Cool” will celebrate the music of legendary Latin Jazz bandleader Cal Tjader.
Cal Tjader's career began in the 40's and he continued to perform and record until his death in 1982. He collaborated with so many great musicians including Mongo Santamaria, Chic Corea, Pancho Sanchez, Claire Fisher, Eddie Palmieri, and Carmen McRae and so many more. His later work in the 70s and 80s expanded to incorporate Brazilian and Fusion elements. At the core his music always makes you want to move.
“I first heard Cal's music in the late 60s when I was in high school and it was cool then and it is still cool today. I've included Cal's music in my repertoire ever since. It is always a pleasure to be able to play these great tunes and share them with our audience.” says Muse Stew bandleader, Scott Samenfeld.
Muse Stew will be performing tunes from Tjader's 60s and 70s bands. The group members are: Scott Samenfeld – guitar and pianica, Susanna Fiore – piano and percussion, Diane Wernick – saxophones, Karen Gruber – congas and percussion, and Trevor Ford – bass.
The ArtLounge, located at 1346 Massachusetts Ave. in Arlington Heights is a welcoming, warm and intimate performance space. Wine, Beer and small plates are available. If the spirit moves you, please get up and dance!
