Please join us for a celebration of the restoration and re-installation of Henry Hudson Kitson's statue of Scottish poet Robert Burns and his dog, Luath. The statue will be making its triumphant return to its original location in the Back Bay Fens from Winthrop Square this month.

Several streets surrounding the The Fens (Kilmarnock and Queensberry) were given the names of Scottish cities and towns mentioned in Burns's poetry. In 1910, The Burns Memorial Association of Boston held a competition to design a statue of Burns in that neighborhood. The winner was artist Henry Hudson Kitson. He completed the statue in 1919, and Governor Calvin Coolidge dedicated it the next year. The piece was moved from The Fenway to Winthrop Square in the Financial District in the summer of 1975.

Our celebration will include music, recitations, and speakers from British and cultural institutions across Boston.
