Boston Underground Summit 9! That’s right, 9. This installation is as eclectic as ever featuring spoken word style hip-hop with a strong, lo-fi bedroom 4-track aesthetic that lends to Devin Bee’s sincerely honest verbal salads as Pink Navel. Minimalist leaning guitar pop gateways to complex lyrical flowers just begging to be sung along to, courtesy of Sidney Gish. The full rock light spectrum with Boston Cream’s (ex-Barbazons) lightning riffs, horns, dance beats, and electro-jams that produce a psychedelic, disco flavored style of punk spewed through a basement strobe light - Mint Green’s catchy, party inspired pop-punk with a faint emo twinge just beneath the surface - Ozlo’s darkwave infused, hook heavy aught-rock embellishments which permeate the bands viscous brand of chaotic yet focused post hardcore - and Worcester’s Kiss Concert whose furious power pop blended basement rock fuels the headbanger in all of us. Plus Kármán Voh’s mystical trance pop played inside a hypnotic echo chamber, and Divided Self (Members of Secret Lover and Snow Wite) who paint the space with groove inducing electrically backed acoustic living room jam sessions. Rounding it out is Solei whose soul inspired sweetheart gems featuring hefty, toe tap inducing backbeats leave plenty of room for the soothing vox of Atlas Lab’s Emma Leavitt to shine through as the focal point. Nine bands for the ninth installation - that’s fate. Come bare witness.
