| BoSoma Dance Company under the direction of Katherine Hooper has been called “vigorously athletic” and “artistically sculptural” by The Boston Globe and has earned a devoted following throughout Greater Boston since its inception in 2003. The company moved to the North Shore in 2017 and has earned rave reviews for their production of “The Dinner Table” that debuted in November at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre. On April 28-29, the company will return to the Larcom with their most innovative production to date, “The Playground.” In collaboration with celebrated guitarist Scott Tarulli, “The Playground” is a one-hour performance that embraces the kinetic energy that is ignited when improvisation is introduced to modern dance and live music. Tickets are on sale now at www.thelarcom.org
Tarulli’s music and Hooper’s choreography will serve as a counterpoint to moments of improvisation by the dancers and musician. The performers and Tarulli will create a dynamic atmosphere where the music and the movements inspire each other for a live collaboration through sound, time, pattern and rhythm. Each show will bring a new and unexpected experience for the audience, based on the choices that the dancers and musician make each night.
The opening act for the evening will be the BoSoma Youth Company (BYC) of the BoSoma School of Dance in Hamilton, MA. BYC is a community outreach dance group for ages 9-18 committed to sharing the art of dance at a wide variety of local venues. This pre-professional performance group, under the Direction of Hooper and Stephanie Boisvert, offers students the chance to take their training outside the classroom and into the community at places such as town fairs, after-school programs, fundraisers, and other local events. In addition, youth company dancers are given the opportunity to enhance their dance education through workshops, master classes, and intensives throughout the country.
