Bassist Bob Nieske come back to the Mandorla Music Series after too long, this time bringing a band featuring Phil Grenadier on trumpet, Randy Roos on guitar and drummer Jon Hazilla.
Nieske has worked with Jimmy Giuffre, the Either/Orchestra, George Russell, and Stephane Grappelli. As bassist, composer, and bandleader, his projects include a suite for his jazz trio with the Lydian String Quartet, and a quartet recording featuring Grenadier, Hazilla and guitarist Dave Tronzo.
Randy Roos keeps a low profile these days, and is most often seen locally as an occasional member of Club d'Elf. His long career has found him playing in Orchestra Luna, and in projects with such high-profile figures as Steve Swallow, Mick Goodrick, John Medeski, Bill Frisell, and Bill Bruford. He has released such highly-regarded solo records as Mistral, Primalvision and Liquid Smoke.
Phil Grenadier may be best known locally as Jerry Bergonzi's right-hand man, but he also plays with George Garzone, leads his own bands, and has recently been guesting with Club d'Elf. Additionally, he has performed with John Scofield, Kenny Barron, Larry Goldings, Anthony Braxton, George Garzone, Bob Moses, brother Larry Grenadier, and many more.
Jon Hazilla is a longtime professor at Berklee and is known as a master of brush technique. His performing and recording career have found him working with such notable players as Jo Anne Brackeen, Billy Taylor, Ray Drummond, Ron Carter, George Garzone, Benny Golson, Sheila Jordan, Ran Blake, Max Roach, and so many more.
