Let’s go lean! While black women are the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs in the United States, our businesses are consistently not growing or pulling the revenue that our non-minority counterparts are. While some of this can be attributed to systematic challenges, much of it has to do with the lack of understanding around 21st century business skills required to build a successful business, and specifically, the Lean Startup Method. Every company, from Uber to Google, on college and university campuses around the country, to Mass Challenges, Techstars and more, are teaching Lean Startup as the standard!

What is Lean Startup? Lean Startup is how the core of innovation is developed; it’s a customer first approach to growing a business that teaches you to identify the pain points of your customer base and meet those needs. Essentially it teaches you to ask yourself, do you know who your customer is? How well do you know if they want what you have to sell? You may think you know who your customer is, but if you aren’t selling to them consistently, then you actually probably don’t. If you don’t know who your target customer is or what exactly it is they want, how can you successfully grow your business?

As Lean Startup is iterative by nature (you’ll learn by doing, and do by learning), once you’ve been taught the Lean Startup method, it will shift how you do business! For this reason, the Black Girls Go Lean, Lean Startup for Small Businesses Bootcamp was created. Spearheaded by Dominique Aubry of The Black Woman’s Guide, this bootcamp will help black women business owners and entrepreneurs:

Attract and learn how to talk to your customers

Engage your customers and get product feedback

Discover what your customer cares about

Create and/or further develop a product your customer wants
